The School of Statistics and Mathematics has a long history of running schools, which can be traced back to the statistics department established in 1945. In 1980, the first undergraduates majoring in business planning statistics were enrolled. In 1984, the Department of Planning Statistics and Accounting was established. In 1987, the Department of Planning Statistics was founded separately. In 1994, the Department of Statistics and Investment was established. In 1997, the Department of Statistics was established. In 2001, the school of Statistics and Mathematics was established.

There are more than 100 faculty members, including 27 professors and 35 associate professors.

After the continuous efforts of several generations of statisticians, the school has gained gratifying achievements in various aspects. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the MOE in 2016, Statistics ranked seventh in the country, and again entered the top 10% of the country. In the first-level statistics disciplinary ranking of China's graduate education by the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation (RCCSE）, it has entered the top 1% of the country for three consecutive years, and the first in Zhejiang Province.
